Vinyl Cabinet
Exploring form and function in domestic furniture
2020
The vinyl cabinet was a personal project designed to store a turntable and records while also serving as a means to improve woodworking skills.
The cabinet borrowed influence from mid-century modern furniture design. To maintain a consistent and balanced form, it followed a 3:1 ratio throughout, from the overall length and height to the dividers placed within the cabinet.
It was built from veneered plywood with trim edges on the front and a plywood backing in the rear. The structure was built using a table saw, chop saw and nail gun, with finishing done using an orbital sander, stain and wax.
Tools/Materials Used:
Plywood and hardwood strips
Woodworking tools (circular saw, table saw, nail gun, wood glue) for rough and fine wood cuts and construction
Finishing tools (wood filler, orbital sander, sandpaper, wood stain, wax) for treatment and final color/material/finish
